How I got Started.
I starte out like a lot of others did on CB way back in the late 70s with a Midland 40 channel set up progressing on to SSB with one of the many multimodes going around then.
In 2002 I was persuaded to have a go at the RAE ,months of studying later i took the RAE along with another friend,he passed i didn't, I was also a memember of the Whitehaven Amateur Radio Club, one of the members M0DHV took pity on me and started to teach me all about amateur radio, I also had to do mock exams which were marked once a week,I finaly put in for the RAE along with Richard M1RIC (now silent key) we both passed my first call was M1MJH (my initials) shortly after the M3 exam was brought in ,several of us took the morse appreciation allowing us to go on to HF but with only 10w, my call was M3YDX,I then purchased aTMG MQ2 highbrid quad this covers 6 bands with the help of friends it was built up, first contact was into Jordan and that was with the antenna at 6ft off the ground and 10w yes 10w propogation was a little better than it is now but with the help of the MQ2 I managed to work some good DX.
I took the morse test in July 2003 and passed (thanks to G4UDO one hell of a tutor and good friend also Tom 2E0OMT now silent key Tom would come to the house and teach me ).I then got the call M0XAT,I have to thank M0DHV,G4UDO, M0CRM (now G7MRL) without thier help and patience
I dont think i would have Passed the RAE.
