Dammika,4S7DF making the first ever HF Mobile contact in Sri Lanka,
photograph was taken whilst we were travelling over to the East coast to deliver medical aid after the Tsunami.
I also have a full license for Sri Lanka 4S7MHG,thanks to 4S7DF for all his hard work.
1200 people died here at Hikkaduwa
Shortly after the Tsunami hit Sri Lanka myself (M0XAT) and John (G0MTQ)
took medical aid and ham radio equipment over,we had permission to travel over to the east coast, Our driver Wicky done a great job co-driver and radio op 4S7DF,On the way we carried out comparison tests between mobile phones and HF radio,HF radio won hands down 99%   of the time there was no signal from the mobile where as HF was no problem, the photograph shows Dammika 4S7DF making the first ever HF mobile contact (operating mobile in sri lanka was not allowed, we had special permission).
We covered about 1500 miles and slept in a red cross tent on plastic chairs
Every now and then we would hear a loud bang this was to scare the wild elephants away,in the morning it was a walk accross the field to one of the stand pipes from the water purification plant for a cold wash, just up the road there were about six camps full of people that had lost thier home, over the road from our camp was a bay where a lot of people had drowned.
Further up the road in a place called   Komary       99% of the houses and the large army camp had been destroyed some of the people had seen the wave comming and managed to climb up to the top of the palm trees even then the water was hitting them but they were able to hang on. Just a bit of Imfo>Our room bill + meals and drinks came to RS26,983 for 2 people, that would have fed 154 people for 1 week !
Allowance by the gov =RS375 per person per week crazy or what.
